#IVITEB – I’m voting in this election because…

#2 – Women’s Rights

I’m voting in this election because… the rights of women are on the line.

Donald Trump is a misogynistic pig, and many of his GOP enablers in Congress have proven their piggishness, as well.

More than two dozen women have accused Trump of sexual assault. In the lead-up to the 2016 election, he bragged about grabbing women by the pussy whenever he wanted to and how he used to walk in on mostly naked young women when he owned the Miss America Pageant. He’s paid off porn stars. And throughout his presidency, he has spoken of women as being weak, called them “monsters” and worse, and has given them racist nicknames like “Pocahontas.”

As egregious as all of that is, it’s beside the point. This isn’t about Trump or the jerks he supports and who support him.

It’s about the women in my life and in yours.

I am married to an accomplished, highly intelligent, take-no-crap woman. Two of our three kids are girls.

I don’t want them and other women to lose their right to choose what is best for their own bodies or the right to safe and legal abortion. I want them to get equal pay for equal work. I want them to be able to achieve the highest heights of their chosen professions if that’s what drives them. I want their friends and acquaintances to be treated equally under the law. I want them to be safe from domestic and sexual abuse, and I want justice for domestic and sexual abuse victims. And, finally, I don’t want anyone to mansplain anything to them, ever.

None of that can be the norm. I want the rights of the women in my life, and all women, to be expanded, not limited, and I want them to be treated with the respect they deserve.

Therefore, I want to get rid of this “president” and his enablers, people who demean women in dozens of ways day after day. At the very least, they’ve proven repeatedly that they’re no friends to female U.S. citizens.

I believe Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are decent human beings who will fight for women’s rights.

If you’re with me, please…

Martin C. “Red” Fredricks IV here. I’m husband to an amazing woman who is also my best friend, dad to three outstanding kids, Fargoan (North Dakota, that is), proud introvert, veteran messaging strategist/copywriter, blogger (https://ivwords.com) nonprofit founder (https://theclimateknights.org/) and big-time reader. As they say, if you're gonna write good stuff, you have to read good stuff. A ginger, too - ergo the "Red" - although some of it's going white. Cinnamon-Sugar, I call it. Tattooed to boot; seven so far. At age 54, I'm stilling crankin' AC/DC & Metallica, but now and again I spin some Eric Church and Black Uhuru, too. I love hanging out with my (much) better half, spending time with our kids, writing, hiking, riding my mountain bike and reading.

AND they’ve proven repeatedly that they’re no friends to workers of any gender: those who build what’s needed, those who run what’s needing run and those who maintain what needs maintaining.
Oh, lest we forget: they’ve proven repeatedly that they’re no friends to teachers and others who help us raise our children.
Health care workers. Store workers.
Kinda gets to making a picture, doesn’t it?
Also worth noting: a very large share of what i’ve mentioned are women.
